Sault Ste. Marie, Mich, native Rich Metro has reportedly been named Assistant coach at Lake Superior State University following a year as video administrator for the Lakers. No official comment from Lake Superior State yet.
Metro played collegiate hockey at Northern Michigan University, where he was the Wildcats' rookie of the year in 1995 and a two-year co-captain. He totaled 24-35-59 at NMU from 1995-99. Prior to NMU Metro played on two winning national championship teams with Sault Michigan Hockey Association teams, and played for the Soo Hawks and the Marquette Electricians AAA midget teams, and Waterloo Blawkhawks of the United States Hockey League. After professional stints in the Central Hockey League (Ashville Smoke) and the East Hockey League (Pee-Dee Pride), and United Hockey League (Asheville Smoke), Metro played six seasons with Villard de Lans, France, and won two League Magnus French Hockey Championships. He was the team's all-time leading scorer
Metro is married to Elodie, and is the son of Con and Grace Metro. His father played on the original Laker Hockey team coached by Ron Mason in 1966-67. His brother, Terry, was a goaltender at Wisconsin-Stout.
