Lakers Make it five in a row

After two scoreless periods of hockey, including a second period in which the Lake Superior State University (9-5-3) was able to hold 17th ranked Bemidji State (9-4-0) to only three shots, the Lakers broke the stalemate with a Sault Native Marty Gurnoe scoring his first college goal at 7:30 of the third period on the power play, assisted by Trent Campbell.

Bemidji was able to tie the game on their third power play of the night with a goal by Rob Sirianni at 12:21 of the third period.

Mike Adamek, playing in his first game of the season, scored the game winning goal at 14:19 of the third period, assisted by Josh Sim.

LSSU hockey is now 5-3-1 against nationally ranked opponents.

Laker goalie Jeff Jakaitis stopped 25 of the 26 shots he faced including 5 of 6 while shorthanded. BSU goaltender Matt Climie allowed 2 goals on 23 shots.

LSSU was out shot by their opponent 26 shots to 23 shots. Look for BSU junior Layne Sedevie to get the nod in goal Saturday night; the Beavers are 6-0 with him in between the pipes.

LSSU went 1 for 7 on the power play while BSU went 1 for 3 on the power play; Faceoffs where dominated by BSU by greater than a two to one margin 49-23.

LSSU will faceoff against BSU again Saturday night at 8:05 eastern time.
