Shawhan out at LSSU

After weeks of speculation it has been reviled today that Lake Superior State University assistant coach Joe Shawhan will not be back next season with the Lakers.

LSSU Press Release: Lake Superior State University's hockey coach Jim Roque announced today that assistant hockey coach Joe Shawhan will not be returning to the University after June 30, 2008, at the end of his current contract.

Shawhan served as an assistant coach at LSSU for the past three seasons after heading the Soo Indians Junior A program for 10 years before it closed its doors in 2005. Shawhan also served a variety of roles with the Lakers in an unofficial capacity from 1988-1995.

The Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., native was a goaltender at LSSU from 1982-87. He led the Central Collegiate Hockey Association in goals-against average and save percentage in 1985-86 and totaled 1,130 career saves.

"I wish him well in his future endeavors, and know he will be successful in whatever path he chooses," Roque said.
