Gysbers Garners Weekly CCHA Award

Lake Superior State sophomore Defenseman Simon Gysbers was named Central Collegiate Hockey Association Defenseman of the Week after totaling a goal and three assists to lead the Lakers to their first conference win of the season. Gysbers, a 6-4, 195-pounder from Richmond Hill, Ont., scored LSSU's first goal during Saturday's 4-1 victory over Bowling Green State, and assisted on the Lakers' other three goals. He also blocked five shots over the weekend. Gysbers has three goals and seven assists through 20 games this season. Last season Gysbers shared the Soo Blueliners Outstanding Freshman Award with teammate nathan Perkovich after finishing second among Laker rookies in points with 12 and second among all defensemen with a +5 rating. Prior to attending LSSU Gysbers was the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League's Defenseman of the Year during the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons.
