Lakers Fail to Show Up for Second Meeting in Fairbanks

Lake Superior State University’s Saturday night woes continued this weekend with the Lakers falling 3-1 in Saturday’s series finally against the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

LSSU came out drowsy in the 11:05 EST start time allowing the Nanooks Kyle Greentree to slip a goal past Laker goalie Jeff Jakaitis just 52 seconds into the game. Greentree added a second goal just past the midpoint of the first period and then completed the hat trick with under 4 minutes remaining in the second period on the power play after a frustrated LSSU team was called for three consecutive penalties.

The lone bright spot for the Lakers was Josh Sim scoring his second goal of the weekend and 6th of the season at 13:07 of the third period, Nathan Perkovich got the only assist on the play.

For the game LSSU went 0-for-6 on the power play and held UAF to 1-for-5 with the extra man. The Lakers won the faceoff battle going 32-for-55 on the night.

Next weekend the Lakers play a home-and-home series against Northern Michigan University.
